1995 saw the last ever Snelling Sevens tournament played at Cardiff and now called the Worthington Sevens. Newport beat Penarth in a Preliminary Round and then accounted for Maesteg 34-7 in the 1st Rd proper. They then came up against one of the tournament favourites Swansea in the Q/F. There was not to be a fairy tale ending for Newport who lost by a whisker 29-28. Swansea then went on to win their 4th title beating Bridgend in the final oddly by the same score 29-28 with Bridgend’s Robert Howley winning the Everson Award.
